Michele, originally from Owensboro Kentucky, now lives in Madison, Alabama. She lives with her husband and three children. Over the past 20 years she has lived all over the United States and spent 3 years living and traveling abroad.
She began painting 11 years ago when her husband gave her a sketchbook as a gift. He had remembered that she had talked about being an artist when she was a little girl.
This began her adventure in art.....
Michele says, "I create art because I have a deep craving. When I paint, I never know what will come out. It has been a type of meditation for me, getting lost in each piece I create and not knowing who it is for, is exciting!" "But the true joy is watching people connect with their piece of art. It is a way to share my experience, strength and hope”.
After sketching and painting every day for the first few years, Michele was called to make her passion her life’s work. She attended the Chicago & Kentucky Schools of Faux Finishing and studied with artists such as Margaret Dyer, Joan Blackburn, and many others. In 2004 Michele began her studies as a decorative painter, under artist Alissa Ramsey, owner of Average to Art. She painted murals, custom art and decorative finishes in the Huntsville and surrounding areas. In 2006 she opened her own company, Artistic Finishes Studio. Her mural work can be publically viewed at the Huntsville Hospital’s TOC unit. Michele says, “This mural is probably one of my favorites because it gives something back to the patients in TOC recovery and the community.”
In 2010 Michele opened 16 Main Gallery, a artist community and gallery in downtown Madison, Alabama. The gallery housed 10 artists, a classroom and art gallery for local artists to sell their art. Unfortunately the gallery closed in late 2012.
In 2013 Michele moved into the Lowe Mill Artist Community, in Huntsville Alabama.. This is where her studio is now housed. She paints every day with the same enthusiasm as she did that very first time. Michele signs each painting with “GM Lee”, her way of giving to God, herself and her family. She is now living the reality of that little girl’s dream that has grown out of one small gift…her sketchbook.
